How To Buy From A Brompton's Auction |
Step by Step Buying Guide.
- View the instruments at our London Salerooms. Public viewing days are usually the three days before, however the instruments are available to try for some weeks before the sale.
- Once you have chosen the instrument, decide the maximum you are willing to pay for this. Too often in the atmosphere of the auction it is possible to get enthusiastic and over-bid!
- If you wish to bid in person. Register with our clerks 20 minutes or so before the sale starts. You will be given a ‘paddle’ with your number on it. This is the means by which the auctioneer will identify you if you are lucky enough to ‘win’ your lot.
- Once in the auction, the auctioneer will work through the catalogue, giving lot number and a short description of the instrument. Raise your hand when your lot comes up and if the bidding is lower than your pre-determined target.
- If you ‘win’ the lot you can pay at cashiers’ desk where an invoice will be waiting for you and take the instrument away on the day. The payment deadline is 10 days. If you have concerns about the length of this period, let us know before the sale and we can try and discuss with the vendor whether they would be willing to wait slightly longer.
- We hope that you find bidding through Brompton’s an easy and pleasant experience. We are always happy to help as far as we are able.
